Standing shoulder to shoulder with Non-Nuclear States, Vanuatu’s Prime Minister reaffirmed, in Parliament on Friday 28th March 2025, the nation’s unwavering stance against nuclear weapons.
The Hon. Prime Minister emphasized Vanuatu's commitment to global peace and security and highlighted Vanuatu’s historical advocacy for a Pacific Nuclear Free Zone and its ratification of key treaties, including the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the Treaty on the Prohibition of nuclear weapons (TPNW). Expressing concerns over the ongoing arms race and nuclear threats, he called for greater transparency, accountability, and constructive dialogue among nuclear-armed states. He also urged global leaders to prioritize climate change resilience over military build-up, stressing that the real existential threat facing nations is climate change, not nuclear deterrence. The Hon. Prime Minister's statement is in line with the MSG Leaders' commitment and the PIF's Ocean of Peace initiative.
